Useful information before your appointment.
There are various reasons why treatments may not be able to carry on.
A contra-indication is something the prevents or restricts the treatment. It is important to establish any contra-indications before carrying out a treatment. If there is an infection or disease present which could contraindicate the treatment, treatment will have to be postponed.
An infectious disease can be passed on from one person to the other by air droplets, direct or indirect contact.
Bacterial Infections are minute single-celled organisms of varied shapes - these are usually abscesses, boils, and pustules.
Viral infections are minute in size and cannot be seen by the human eye. They are parasites as they require living tissue in order to live and infection can easily spread. These are Herpes, cold sores etc.
Dry eyes - I would suggest seeing the doctor before an eye treatment, as the eye treatment can make your eyes itchier.
Stye - this is a bacterial infection. This usually appears as a small pus-filled lump. Eye treatments should not be carried on whilst symptoms remain.
Conjunctivitis - this is a highly contagious eye infection. Once completely clear eye treatment can be carried on.
Blepharitis - this a bacterial infection, it can be due to blocked oil glands and poor hygiene - you need to follow a cleaning routine for 2 weeks. If blepharitis has gone I can then proceed with an eye treatment.
Lash Mites / Headlice - unpleasant as it is, these tiny parasites live in the hair follicles. Once these parasites are gone I can carry on with treatments.
Chemotherapy or post-chemotherapy - please consult with your GP before proceeding with any treatment.
Pregnancy first trimester is always the most difficult one, if you are pregnant please inform me as you wouldn't be able to have certain treatments first trimester. For some treatments, you will require a new patch test.
Any open wands/cuts which can carry infection I wouldn't be able to carry on with the treatments.
If you feel unwell or sick please let me know.
If you have any of these symptoms please make sure you let me know in advance so I don't have to turn you away with disappointment.
